HS Weekend Welcomes Texas, Florida
Slowly the season are getting started.
This week Texas and Florida kick off. Texas has a new single-school team conference in action, which is mostly, but not all, Catholic schools. We are seeing a small wave of new school teams around the country. SoCal has them, Texas is adding a couple, and North Carolina, too.
Time to Apply to Boys HS National Championships
Games to Watch For
St. Pius X vs Strake Jesuit. It's a very early start for these two teams and we will see the school teams in Texas go up and down as the season progresses. This is a good test for both. The Woodlands are in this school league and lost to St. Thomas, but before you get too excited about that, know that this Woodlands team is based on fielding a team of players that are all (or almost all as the league has a little leeway) from Woodlands HS. So this is not the same as the Woodlands Club side 1st XV, and we will be ranking Woodlands as a club regardless based on their club results.
Boca Raton vs Okapi and Jacksonville vs Hammerheads. We get a good sense of where the Florida league is with these games. Every year in this state it seems like at least one team starts a little slow and then makes a run late. So losing here is not the end of a team's hopes, not by a long shot.
Fallbrook at Cathedral. Two of the three undefeated teams meet up in what is a huge game because it could have a significant influence on which teams make the SCIRF final.
And then South Meck, 4-0-1, takes on upstarts Laney HS, 4-0. Laney has a tiny bit bigger offense and South Meck a tiny bit stingier defense. But really this will be a close one.
