Harvard hosts the Crimson 7s this weekend in a warmup to the Varsity Rugby Conference 7s series which starts in a little ore than a week.

Harvard ran out two sides at the Frostbite 7s March 5, and won with their A side.

"7's is a lot more wide-open, speed, dynamic game that allows us to really focus on our fundamentals of rugby; passing, catching, transferring the ball quickly and tackling," said Harvard Coach Sue Parker. "We've been focusing a lot on those fundamentals and making good decisions around those fundamentals to exploit the opportunities that the other teams give us. We're really looking at this as a growth and developmental season and I really like what I've seen so far."

This time around, the Crimson will field one team, with fellow Varsity Rugby Conference rivals West Chester, Sacred Heart, and Quinnipiac also in action. Those three, in fact, comprise Pool 1 along with Navy’s B team. Harvard and Navy A are in Pool 2 with New Hampshire and Endicott.

The following week, a new series of varsity tournaments will be held, with Quinnipiac hosting the first tournament on April 2.

Then Brown hosts on April 9, West Chester on April 16, and Bowdoin on April 23.

Points will be earned in that series, which will then help seed the teams for the championship event at West Point on April 30.

“I think it’s the best format we can get,” said Army Head Coach Bill LeClerc. “It’s a short time, but it’s going to be intense. The last tournament being at home will be nice for the firsties to finish out their rugby careers at home. It’ll be a lot of fun, and we’ll be playing against a lot of good teams every weekend.”

The points system is: 1st 10 pts, 2nd 7 pts, 3rd 5 pts, 4th 3 pts, 5th 2 pts., and everyone else 1 pt.
