Girls Wrapup As Playoffs Loom

Los Alamitos is blowing through Southern California.

It's playoff time in Utah and Tennessee, and more leagues are getting active in girls HS rugby; here's a look at what's been going on around the country.

Utah

The Majestics have been playing solid rugby throughout and beat Brighton-Wasatch in the state semifinals on Saturday, while United edged Provo to set up a United-Majestics clash next week.

Pennsylvania

Doylestown beat Downingtown 66-7 and the week before they beat Conestoga 65-0 and they have been dominant in the league.

Doylestown took the week off in league play this past week. Moon Area beat State College, while Downingtown faced off with Morris out of New Jersey and lost 39-5.

Ohio

It's been a very competitive and interesting season in Ohio, with no single team taking control. Warrior, Medina, Highland, Brunswich, Walnut Hills, and St. Joseph Academy have all shown well at times.

Highland has the most wins in the state, but Brunswick beat Highland 37-17 this past weekend, and that's a bit of a head-turner.

Warrior, meanwhile, beat Dayton 57-5, but had fallen to Perrysburg the week before 53-24. So Perrysburg comes into this past weekend and loses to Walnut Hills 22-17. You see how everyone is beating everyone else.

CIRA

Summit beat Monarch 2-0-1 in a three-game 7s series to secure the inaugural women's CIRA championship.

Summit Wins Girls CIRA League

Tennessee

Spring Hill played Columbia on Monday for a place in the final against the Raptors on May 8.

Virginia/Maryland

Vienna looked very good in a 65-0 shutout of Maryland side North Bay. Vienna followed that up with a 22-7 defeat of Fort Hunt. Sophomore scrumhalf Sofia Florio scored five tries and kicked five conversions for Vienna in the two victories. Junior Hannah Garfield was named MVP for the day as her work rate on defense and attack led her team to two impressive victories. Her younger sister, freshman Lucy Garfield, was stellar all over the pitch in her own right.

SoCal

In the Southern California 7s league, Los Alamitos continued their run with wins over the Mustangs Red 26-0, Mustangs Gold 36-7, and the Tritons 24-5. Along with some superb defense, Los Al got four tries from Sia Meni, three from Macilee MacKenzie (and 23 total points), and three tries and 19 total points from Simone Bautista.

Los Alamitos has swept every tournament they've been in.

Idaho

Mountain View remains undefeated in Idaho. They beat Rocky Mountain 27-12 and are the #1 seed going into the playoffs. The Idaho league has been strong and all the games are competitive—we're seeing none of the 50-5 blowouts you see in most other leagues. Yet Mountain View has managed to stay unbeaten and now with injuries healing they are in very good shape.

Northern California

Relatively new varsity team Carondelet started well with a win.

Iowa

Southeast Polk has dominated in the league going 11-0 giving up only six tries along the way, and never more than one in a game. Felicity Severs has 16 tries with Sarah Breitsprecher getting 12 and Annika Dearden with 10. Ava Lacquement has scored eight tries and leads the team with 19 tackles.
