Girls HS Club National Championships Returns for 2022

South Bay won the HS Club championships in 2019.

The National Girls High School Club Rugby Championships will return for 2022 after a hiatus during the COVID outbreak.

The event will be held May 20-22 at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. The event will, as usual, feature a Division I and a Division II bracket, but also, for the first time, the event will have a bracket for Middle-School-age teams. The tournament organizers are expecting space for eight teams in each of those brackets, with the Wayne State rugby program, headed up by Head Coach Darrin Barner, eager to host everyone.

In 2019, the Girls HS Club Championships hit on a relatively novel approach to seeding. They didn't want to give the #1 seed the least-difficult road to the final. So, despite some misgivings from teams, a new seeding plan was put into place that had the #1 seed playing slightly tough games along the way. The result was quite successful, with South Bay taking the national title over Kahuku.

That seeding plan will be effect for the 2022 tournament as well.

As has been the case in previous tournaments, the first two games of the tournament will be shortened games played on the same day. Full-length games (with time saved for overtime) will be played for the placement games, including the final.

Details on how to participate will be coming shortly.
