Gamebreakers Men DII College Oct 4-6

Ollie Kennett in action for Furman.

Here's our list of players who made a significant impact in Men's DII college rugby last weekend.

Let us know here if you think we should recognize anyone.

No. 8 Aidan Kelly, Loyola

Loyola defeated Northern Iowa to get to 2-1 in the Great Midwest, and Kelly led the way with some crunching tackles, big clearouts, and his leadership.

Ollie Kennett, Furman

The Furman flyhalf (pictured) scored two exceptional tries in a tight 34-19 over North Carolina and directed the Paladins’ attack all day.

John Schneider, Marist

The Marist loosehead prop scored two tries and thundered over all before him as he used this 300-pound frame to push RPI defenders aside in the 34-13 Marist win. Schneider’s work in the scrum was also key as he shoved the RPI pack back enough to elicit several scrum steals. Schneider, a sophomore, leads the team in tries.

Mike Suter, York

The York flyhalf has been a key leader on the team and was instrumental in running the offense as York defeated Millersville. He also chipped in two tries.

Cesar Escajeda, Angelo State

In a key win over University of Dallas in the Lonestar Conference, Escajeda scored five tries and converted one for 27 points, outscoring Dallas on his own as Angelo State won 34-26.

Matt Mackay, Vermont

The UVM wing opened up the scoring in the third minute against Quinnipiac and added another right on halftime to pace Vermont to a 45-5 defeat of the Bobcats in the NEWCRC.

Graham Foster, Coast Guard

The USCGA lock helped set the platform for Coast Guard and scored a key try to turn a 12-7 game into a 17-7 score, as Coast Guard held off Hartford 26-7.

Erik Elsner, Minnesota-Duluth

The hardworking Bulldog No. 8 has emerged as a key leader for the team and was hugely influential in Duluth’s 12-7 victory over UW-Platteville.

Sean Mullett, Grand Valley State

The son of GVSU Head Coach John Mullett, Sean was an accomplished lacrosse player but passed up a scholarship in that sport to attend Grand Valley State and play rugby there. Injuries have held him back, but those injuries have in fact come from his very accomplished competitive Irish dancing career. Healthy and back on the field, Mullett was a huge thorn in Bethel’s side as GVSU beat Bethel 17-12.
