The post-World Cup signing binge begins and USA flyhalf AJ MacGinty has signed with Connacht of the Guinness Pro 12 league.

Connacht is one of four Irish teams in the pan-European league that also includes four Welsh teams, two Scottish teams, and two Italian teams. Among those is the Cardiff Blues, where Eagles Blaine Scully and Cam Dolan will start their season soon.

MacGinty, who is Irish-born but qualifiied for the USA on residency, had a good World Cup campaign, showcasing some nifty running and, for the most part, solid goalkicking. He has scored 90 points for the USA in only eight games. MacGinty played for the New York Athletic Club, and then entered Life University to pursue a Master's Degree, a move that kept him in the USA for over three years, and thus allowed him to earn USA eligibility early this year.

He is set to start training with Connacht tomorrow, Tuesday.

Commenting on the new signing, the province's CEO Willie Ruane said: "We're delighted to welcome AJ to Connacht Rugby. He has made a name for himself as a young Irishman playing for USA in the Rugby World Cup but has been doing very well in the States for the past few years and we are very pleased that he will strengthen our options at out-half."
