DII College Rundown - Who's Winning Where

The Men's DII College season is heading into playoff time, so here's a look at where everyone is, and who remains in the hunt.

Also see latest scores here: Men DII College Games Oct. 22-23

Colonial Coast

Salve Regina won this weekend and have clinched 1st in the conference. Led by captain Joe Goff (no relation) and prop Ben Brisette, Salve and Plymouth State will meet November 5 for the championship.

New England Wide

The winner will, for sure, get a place in the playoffs, and that comes down to next week’s clash between Coast Guard and Hartford.

Coast Guard defeated Westfield State this week in a cold, wet game. Wings Jordan Fonville and Ryan Carpenter combined for six tries, but the key was the work through the phases up the middle.

Both CGA and Hartford are unbeaten going into next week’s game.

NECRC

Technically, Norwich has not clinched. But their win over Rhode Island 36-24 was a big step in that direction. Since Norwich is 6-0 and has to lose both games, and see Vermont win two, chances are Norwich will be the team. Vermont, which has two close-losses, could well be a wild card team.

Rugby Northeast

Bentley and Providence are 6-0, and November 5’s game between the two is the conference decider. The loser of that game could be a wild card team.

Upstate New York

There was much to be decided in this final weekend of action. Cortland clinched 1st with a win over Oswego. Geneseo knew they needed to win with a bonus point to potentially get a bye in the 1st round, and they did that emphatically, 87-0 over Niagara. That was enough to leapfrog Oswego for 2nd, and Cortland and Geneseo take next week off.

LeMoyne’s 22-19 win over RIT clinched them a playoff spot. Next week’s playoffs see LeMoyne against Oswego, and Fredonia v RIT. The winners face Cortland and Geneseo in the semis a week later.

Tri-State

The Quarterfinals happened this past weekend, with Sacred Heart, Siena, William Paterson, and RPI moving on to the semis. Nice road win for RPI, but Sacred Heart and WPU look to be the best teams.

Cardinals

The playoffs are here soon and NC State and VMI seem to be the top teams. But watch out for Old Dominion, which just scored 99 on UMBC and could make a late run.

Radford should also make the conference playoffs.

MARC

IUP and Rowan lead their divisions and should continue to do so. York has clinched a spot in the semis, and then there’s a race between Bloomsburg, Drexel, and Scranton for that final spot.

This coming weekend, Scranton and Drexel play each other, and Bloomsburg plays division-leaders Rowan. Any of those three can get that last spot.

Southern

Furman is undefeated and won this past weekend against Appalachian State and looked pretty good doing it. On Tuesday, UNCW and Coastal Carolina - both undefeated - face off, finally. INC-Charlotte is also a solid team, and those four will battle it out.

South Conf. Leaders Look to Delayed Showdown

Northern Lights

In Minnesota, St. Cloud State became the 4th playoff team, along with Minnesota-Duluth, Winona State, and North Dakota State. Duluth is the odds-on favorite to win.

WIIL

Illinois State impressed mightily with with 49-5 defeat of Northern Iowa. The quarterfinals are set, but it’s really likely going to come down to ISU and Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Whitewater, ISU to Top of WIIL

Great Lakes

Grand Valley State clinched 1st with a win over Oakland Saturday. This conference hasn’t had a wild card, but could, and that would be Oakland.

Gateway

Playoffs to come. Pitt State exploited some UMS&T mistakes to win a close one 20-17, but any of the four teams in the final four - S&T, Pitt State, Southern Illinois, or Principia - could win it.

Rocky Mountain

The regular season is done and we’ve got a final four weekend set with the top four teams involved: Western State, Colorado School of Mines, Montana State, and Colorado College. Western State and Mines have been very good, and while Western State beat Mines in their first meeting, it could be different the second time around.
