DIA Latest - Round 1 Finished

Lindenwood, Davenport, and Utah move on to the DIA Quarterfinals as all two of the teams needed strong second halves to put away their opponents.

The closest game, by far, was Cal Poly at Utah, with the Mustangs leading the Utes 12-5 at halftime. Utah scored right after halftime to tie the game 12-12. The teams traded tries again, with Utah going up 19-12 and Cal Poly replying to tie the game once more.

And again it was trading tries. Utah, however, got in one more, winning 31-26.

Things were a little more emphatic in Michigan, where Davenport weathered a torrid first half against Wheeling Jesuit. WJU scored just before the break to make it 14-8, Davenport leading. But in the second half, a try by JP Eloff and two from loose forward Anthony Welmers put the game away 38-8.

Lindenwood didn’t need to raise their game in the second half. By halftime against Colorado State the Lions led 45-0, and never looked back. Ten different Lindenwood players scored 11 tries as the Lions clawed the Rams 69-12.

So that sets up the quarterfinals for next week. Air Force hosts Lindenwood, and Army hosts Davenport. Penn State is set to play Life University, and Utah will go to St. Mary’s.
