DI Games - Conference Titles on the Line

Colgate faces Syracuse this weekend. Lemal Brown photo.

We already saw fall #1 AIC defeat UConn in a startling display of how the Yellow Jackets can just rip up a hard-working defense.

But there are more games on tap for the remainder of the weekend.

Clemson can make a major statement this weekend with games against #34 Maryland and Virginia. A 2-0 weekend for the Tigers will put them at 4-0 in the ACRL and really with only NC State capable of catching them. NC State played Wake Forest and should win. However, what if Virginia beats Clemson? Then UVa and NC State could emerge from the weekend 2-0-1 with everything to play for. It looks to be Clemson's weekend, but we'll see ...

In the Big Ten, #2 Indiana could push to #1 if they play well enough against Michigan State. Indiana and Ohio State are 4-0 i the Big Ten, and Wisconsin is 3-0. So really the biggest game of the weekend there will be Wisconsin at Ohio State. The Buckeyes have one of their best teams in the last few years, and despite being ranked two spots below Wisconsin, they might be slim favorites at home.

In the DIA West, Colorado could make a move with a victory over Air Force, who is coming off a humbling loss to Colorado State. CSU should be without Ben Pinkelman, off training with the USA 7s team, and that's a loss in that Pink continues to grow and develop as a player. But CSU hosts Wyoming, and should survive the absence of their best player.

In the ECRC, it's all to former. UMass, BS, and NEC should all win. It's not so secure in the Empire. There, 4-1 Syracuse plays 4-1 Colgate to see who will join Stony Brook in the championship game. This is a very tight clash. Syracuse is continuing to improve, and they have a really effective kicking game. Colgate is playing as a cohesive unit with a lot of confidence, and they can kick, too. This is the game both have circled for a while, and it might well come down to a late penalty goal.

In the Heart of America, Kansas looked impressive in winning their conference game against Oklahoma State last week and then winning a couple of extra games, but this is going to be much more difficult as Missouri visits the Jayhawks. This will be a huge clash and could well help decide the conference.

Deciding the conference is also on the minds of those in the Rugby East, with Kutztown hosting Army. It's a massive game for both, and could well vault Kutztown to #1. See more here.

The MAC, with its weird in-conference, between-conference games that don't count in the standings, has its highest-ranking game not counting. That would be Cincinnati against Bowling Green. The big standings-relevant game is Dayton at Ohio. Both can put themselves in position to get into the playoffs with a win.
