The first weekend in the Deep South Boys HS league saw the defending champion St. Paul’s squad win big.
St. Paul’s defeated West Jefferson 48-0 in a game they controlled from the outset. Nine different St. Paul’s players scored, and the team’s defense was staunch.
"West Jefferson doesn't quit when they are down, but the couldn't match our speed,” said St Paul’s center Cameron Meyers.
St. Paul's faces Florida-based Niceville next weekend. Niceville opened up the season with an impressive 19-14 win over Brother Martin at Spring Hill College in Alabama.
And league debutants Shreveport welcomed the Houma Hurricanes to their stadium on a day of rugby. The Hurricanes had a game on their hands but prevailed 31-10.
