Davis Stays Top as Pac West Continues

It's pretty clear that there are two leaders in the Pac West Conference, and those two will be meeting up soon.

As it is, while we await the UC Davis v Chico State clash, which comes March 25, we can at least see how those two teams build toward the big day. Chico State still has some work to do, and while CSU beat UC Santa Cruz last week, the scoreline, 36-24, wasn't exactly dominant.

UC Davis, however, has been very impressive (have a look at the highlights of their win over Stanford from January 28 here) in beating Stanford 79-12 and San Jose State 86-7. Josh Farnsworth has been excellent at flyhalf running the open-field attack, and up front forwards captain Harrison Morrow has been a powerhouse.

Some new players, such as Jared Woosley, have stepped to the fore, while fullback Tarik Siniora has showed both athletic ability and a desire to work hard.

This week they take on San Francisco State, and the Aggies are heavily favored, and Head Coach Kal Incendy knows that. And with the big scores Davis has already logged in the league, his job is to keep the players on-task for the tougher games to come.

"We are working to stay disciplined as a team and also work on our depth," Incendy told Goff Rugby Report. "Depth is a key part of it, and I think some teams are struggling with their depth this year. We're going to work some of our B-side players as we go along, because we want there to be no dropoff when we need them later in the season. We've got big goals, and igh expectations, but we're going to need everyone."

This week, Nevada is at Chicago State, SFSU visits the Aggies, and Fresno State plays at Stanford in a clash of 1-1 teams. Also, UC Santa Cruz hosts San Jose State.
