It is a little bit of a quieter weekend now that some teams have dropped off during conference championship time.
With a few teams having already secured conference titles, they take a week off. Others, of course, didn't make the playoffs or were eliminated, so their fall is basically done.
It was a wild ride while it lasted.
So this week we've only got about 20 games on the list. Of those, we have four conference finals (Great Midwest, MARC, Tri-State, and NEWCRC), and some more games that are essentially conference deciders.
Of the games on the slate, eight are ranked team vs ranked team. Not a surprise, really, when four of those include conference finalists, and three others are placement games within a conference (deciding 3rd, for example).
The best matchup, then, would be the one where the respective rankings are the highest, but also close. For that we use the same system used to decide power-speed in baseball: Ranking #1 multiplied by Ranking #2, with the product divided by the average of the two numbers.
Well it turns out we have three games that are almost tied for their rankings power: Vermont vs Norwich (#10 vs #1), Marquette vs Northern Iowa (#7 vs #5), and Villanova vs Georgetown (#4 vs #8). Great matchups. We think you might see a champion out of this group ... but you also might not because IUP and Principia, NC State, and Auburn are also lurking.
