College 7s Latest

Salve celebrates winning the CCRC 7s.

Some interesting college 7s action this weekend.

Salve Regina went 6-0 to win the Colonial Coast Rugby Rugby Conference 7s Saturday, and garner a spot at USA Rugby's Men's DII College 7s Championships in Cary, NC in May.

Salve defeated Endicott in the final behind Connor Murphy's two tries. Murphy was named MVP of the final.

Meanwhile, in the first of a series of tournaments leading to the Upper Midwest DII qualifier, Wisconsin-Milwaukee won the Milwaukee 7s over Wisconsin-Madison's 2nd team.

In DI-level 7s, Kutztown hosted their own 7s tournament and were shocked in the semifinal 17-0 by New England College. NEC was just faster and more shifty in contact, but the celebration didn't last for the New Hampshire team. St. Bonaventure won a tense game 24-10. It was much closer than that, as the teams were tied 5-5 and 10-10, and it was 17-10 with time left for NEC to tie it up when SBU broke through for the clincher.

Colgate beat Middlebury for the Plate.

Video of that tournament can be seen here.

In the Tri-State Tournament, Marist defeated Vassar 24-14 in the final to earn qualification. In Rugby Northeast, UMass-Lowell beat Bentley in double-overtime to win that conference. And in the NECRC, Coast Guard defeated Vermont in the final to win that conference qualifier.

And in the two-day Jesuit Cup in Santa Clara, Boston College defeated University of Notre Dame to take the championship.
