Clemson Upends Arkansas State

The Clemson Tigers pulled off something of an upset in the Varsity Cup, overcoming an early deficit to beat Arkansas State University 26-22 Saturday at Clemson.

ASU took an early lead with a try to make it 7-0, but a penalty from Aaron Keers put Clemson on the board and then a try from Max Simons in the corner put the Tigers up 8-7. Clemson extended their lead seven minutes later with a try from Kevin McKeown, which Keers converted, and while the Red Wolves answered with a penalty, a Chris Abraham try at 40 minutes put Clemson up 20-10 at halftime.

Arkansas State replied in the second half, improving their defense and scoring on an interception, and then another try to take the lead 22-20 with 20 minutes to go. In a tense finish, Keers slotted two key penalties, the first to put the Tigers back on top, and the second to make sure Arkansas State needed a try to win it. That closed it out.
