Citadel Wins Opening Leg of SoCon 7s

Citdel leads the series but there's still plenty of rugby to be played.

Citadel won the Cup in the first stop of the Southern Conference 7s series, held in Wilmington, NC.

Citadel beat UNCW in a competitive final 14-10. UNCW got to the final by winning their pool. They beat Duke and UNCC and tied with UNC-Chapel Hill. The first tiebreaker is points against, which saw UNCW advance. They cruised past Wake Forest in the semifinals. Wake had swept their pool, beating Coastal Carolina, Elon, and Wingate.

Citadel got to the final by sweeping their pool in convincing fashion with wins over Belmont Abbey, ECU, and Appalachian State. Their semifinal game was against Lander, which went to overtime, where Citadel won in sudden death. Lander also swept their pool, beating Furman, College of Charleston, and Western Carolina.

In the Plate bracket Furman came out victorious over UNC in the final. Furman beat ECU to advance and UNC won over Coastal Carolina.

Belmont Abbey ended up winning the Bowl and Duke won the Shield.
