Charlotte Tigers Win NC Over Raleigh

The Charlotte Tigers followed up on their 3rd-place finish at the Boys HS Rugby National Championships with a 48-24 defeat of the Raleigh Redhawks to win the North Carolina state HS club championships.

The Tigers B side also won the Tier 2 championship.

Flanker Eddy van Heerden had a huge day, scoring three tries, while No. 8 David Grant and center Darius Law also touched down.

The Tigers also received a penalty try when Ethyn Baker ran in from 50 meters, and was tackled illegally just before he was going to score. Fullback Carson Green was a pefect 7-for-7 on kicks, with five conversions and two penalty goals.

Played in very hot weather, with game-time temperatures in the mid-90s, the game was even through the first half, and the teams changed ends tied 17-18. But the Tigers forwards overpowered the Raleigh pack and opened up the game as a result.

The Charlotte Junior Rugby Association also took 1st in Prep/U10s, and Varsity Middle School.
