Champions Crowned in South Central US

Brother Martin capped off an undefeated in-state season with a victory over St. Paul's.

Three major state championships, two official and one unofficial, we concluded this weekend.

In the unofficial game, Dallas Jesuit played Strake Jesuit for what was billed as a de facto single-school championships in Texas. Strake came into the game having won all of their games save a tie and a three-point loss, both to West Houston. Dallas Jesuit came into the game having won all of their games.

Strake scored early but Jesuit's Jack Judson equalized. Tries from Aidan Piotrowski and Sy Mendenhall made it 19-7 at halftime. Mendenhall scored a second try and then, with the score 26-14, the game was halted for an hour due to lightning.

Once the teams regained the field, Dallas Jesuit's Neil Lancaster and junior Charlie Freeman made it 36-14. Strake didn't back down and ran in two tries, but they didn't have enough time to get any closer and Dallas Jesuit won 36-28.

In a more official championship Bixby slammed F5 to win Oklahoma, shutting out their rivals 51-0. Bixby went through their two playoff games without giving up a point.

Brother Martin capped off an excellent season with a 33-19 defeat of St. Paul's to win the Louisiana state title. Martin went 6-0 in in league action and then won both playoff games, to finish undefeated in state competition.

In a week, top teams from Texas and Louisiana will face off in New Orleans, with Brother Martin taking on Dallas Jesuit, Strake playing St. Paul's, and one more game on the slate, too.

How will that match up? Well Strake did beat Brother Martin on March 27 34-22 in Houston. But this time the Louisiana teams will be at home.
