Cathedral Catholic Caps Their Seniors

The Cathedral seniors get their caps.

Cathedral Catholic, the 2021 SCIRF Champions in Southern California, continued their longstanding tradition of capping seniors for their service to the Cathedral Catholic Rugby Team.

The caps are usually presented by members of the USA Mens National Team and in the past they have given inspirational speeches on the importance of the cap and how National Team members receive and cherish their caps. Unfortunately, despite the lifting of COVID restrictions, no chances were taken with the MNT attending the ceremony with the Olympics only weeks away.

During the Awards Ceremony Cathedral’s Captain for two years, aspiring US Army Officer and the 2021 Ronan Nelson Award winner, Matt Mihas commented on the overall level of improvement and dedication the Dons displayed over the past two years and thanked his teammates for their efforts. Matt will attend junior college while pursuing an Army ROTC scholarship at San Diego State University

Luk Otineru, SCIRF’s 2021 Player of the Year, Cathedral’s MVP and four-year varsity player, remarked how grateful he was to be chosen as player of the year and how the hard work he put in over the past year paid off. Along with his awards, Otineru said that he will always wear his Cathedral Cap with pride. Otineru has received scholarship to play rugby at St. Bonaventure University.
