Boys HS Playoff Weekend!

Jesuit NOLA booked a playoff spot earlier this week. Hudson Ellis photo.

The Deep South Boys HS final is set for this weekend with the Bayou Hurricanes taking on Jesuit of New Orleans.

Jesuit, led by big Will Waguespack and shift Case Ellis, and some big plays in the scrum, defeated defending champs St. Paul’s in the semis this week.

Meanwhile, Bayou Hurricanes hammered the Barbarians behind another big game from Zavier Triplett.

West Point Camp

These two teams met Feb 27, with the Hurricanes winning 31-19.  That game, along with the game against St. Paul’s, was Bayou’s closest game of the league season.

Also this weekend, Texas kicks off its playoffs with the top teams from the North: Westlake and Lake Travis, taking on the top teams from the South: Woodlands and Katy

It’s been a really competitive Texas league this year at the upper ends, with Rock Rugby and St. Thomas, especially, pushing for playoff spots.

Westlake it just hitting the team’s stride, while in the South, Woodlands finished 7-2 and has been improving every week. Westlake, the defending champs, are likely favored, but you never know.

The Florida final is this weekend also. Here’s more on Orlando v Tampa.

And the SoCal playoffs kick off and the quarterfinal matchuips are:

Belmont Shore (4-3) at Coastal Dragons (4-0)

Los Angeles (4-2) at Back Bay (5-1)

San Diego Mustangs (3-1) at Orca U18s (8-0)

Young Aztecs (2-2) at Santa Monica (7-0)
