Bowling Green Hosts MAC 7s

Ryan Steinmetz is off to the races against Northern Illinois.

Bowling Green State University Rugby hosts the Mid American Conference rugby championships at Doyt Perry Football Stadium Saturday.

Kickoff for the event and the first BGSU match will come at 10:00am and conclude later that day with the championship match at 6:40 pm. The MAC champion will then have an automatic bid into the National Collegiate Championship at the University of Denver on May 23 - 24 in Colorado.

The Falcons have already punched their ticket to USA Rugby's 7s championships in Denver with last weekend's 33-17 victory over St. Bonaventure in a mixed conference tournament in Cleveland.

BG has a strong young contingent with Cole Shaffer, Sean McFarland, and Adam Regini out of Wisconsin, Ted Kilgore, Alex Cranmer, and Niall McNamara out of Cleveland, Nick Ross out of Virginia, and Mario Mockus out of Chicago. All of them are sophomores, and they are joined by freshman Ryan Steinmetz.

There are other contenders, with Miami, which has shown flashes, and Ohio and Dayton. Western Michigan, led by Tom Kacor is also a strong contender.
