Big Early Weekend in Texas South

Lamar has been built from a middle school program, but might have some developing to do.

The Texas HS league really gets going this weekend with three league games and three non-conference matchups.

Of the league games there are a couple of intriguing clashes.

Cy-Fair takes on Lamar HS. Lamar lost last week to St. Pius, but actually played quite well and dominated large portions of the game in terms of territory and possession. They just couldn’t get any points. The team was created out of a middle school program, and they are growing. They just need to avoid the penalties.

Cy-Fair, meanwhile, slammed Memorial and are looking to challenge the top teams in the region. Coach Kenneth Hepburn said his squad is pretty strong, and very motivated.

St. Pius meanwhile might have felt they dodged a bullet against Lamar, and will now look to back it all up against a St. Thomas team that just splintered Brother Martin in Louisiana. This game will be a different experience for St. Thomas, as the St. Pius defense promises to be tenacious.

Katy and Kingwood face off. Both have been ranked before by GRR, and Kingwood will want to be put aside their preseason loss to Rock. Katy is always physical. All three of these league games are in the South Division.

In the North, it’s all non-conference at the moment. Alliance faces Jesuit of Dallas, HEB takes on Lake Travis - a team that promises to be a State contender - and Four Points plays Strake Jesuit.
