Berks Steps Around Cow Pie 7s

The Berks I and Berks II teams together. Overall they went 7-1 at the Cow Pie 7s.

Berks County Rugby took home the Cup at Cow Pie 7s Sunday on the campus of Mount St Mary's University.

Berks fielded two teams in the tournament. This was Berks I, and in pool play, Berks I beat Winchester 40-0 and tournament host West Carroll 52-0.

The Berks overall speed and elusiveness has shown to be impressive this spring and summer, and certainly that showed in the pool games.

In the semifinal, Berks was victorious over Mystic River 31-14. That set up the finals matchup with Howard County. Berks kept up the attack, shutting out Howard County 36-0 to take the Cup.

Berks wing/prop Diohnny Ruiz took home the tournament MVP award after scoring nine tries in the four games.

Berks II had a tough opening game matchup in pool play, battling the Minutemen out of DC. In a back and forth game, Berks II managed to come out on top 21-19.  The second pool game was another nailbiter with Loudoun edging Berks 2 19-17.

All 3 teams finished 1-1 in pool play with Minutemen winning the pool based on point differential. This sent Berks II to the plate semifinals where they met Good Counsel; Berks II came out on top, 41-5, sending them to the finals.

In the plate final, Berks II and Vipers I battled to a 12-12 tie at the end of regulation. They went to overtime and on the final play of OT, Berks II scored the game-winner and took home the Plate 17-12.
