The Battle For The Mitten is Back, and Bigger and Better

It’s that time again as the Michigan State Spartans host the University of Michigan Wolverines in the Battle For The Mitten.

A classic rivalry match between these two colleges, the event has been built up into something more under the leadership of Michigan State player Josh Ressio. He has spearheaded this idea into a rugby event that draws thousands of fans.

Slated for September 27, the Battle for the Mitten will once again be held at Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing, Mich., the home of the Lansing Lugnuts baseball team. This venue provides an excellent experience for the fans, and last year’s event, a win for Michigan State, was a big success.

This year, it has expended, with Ohio State taking on Indiana to form a top-of-the-conference doubleheader.

“We’ve already sold out our premium seating,” said Ressio, who expects as many as 4,000 for the game.

“Providing two games I think makes it more of and event. The baseball fans here are used to being at a spoting event for three hours or so, so they will be fine with it. We just think we can provide a great day’s entertainment.”

Ressio said Ohio State and Indiana were happy to take the neutral-site game as they like the experience of playing in a sadium.

“We’re also able to show that college teams are a draw,” said Ressio.
