Army Shuts Out Air Force, 9-0 For Fall

Army West Point Athletics

Army shut out Air Force 42-0 Friday night to take the lead in the Commander-in-Chief Trophy series among the three military academies.

West Point's win capped off a remarkably successful fall, during which the Black Knights went 9-0 and won the Rugby East.

"We're most happy with our rate of improvement," said head coach Matt Sherman. "We get better game-to-game, practice-to-practice, and that's what we're hungry to keep doing."

Sophomore Jayden Demmy led the way for the Black Knights (9-0, 6-0) with a hat-trick, three try effort. Matthew Meehan was right behind, with two tries of his own.

Captain, and senior, Drew Zagula got the ball rolling with an early try in the fourth minute and it was all Army from then out.

"I kind of wanted to come out first, and set the team up," said Zagula. "I wanted to set a mentality and we just kept it up going forward."

This is the first time Army has gone 9-0 since beginning life as a varsity program in 2014. Jason Green now has seven tries on the season.
