West Point stormed back from a 21-12 halftime deficit to defeat Utah 29-26 Saturday in Salt Lake City.

Utah looked very solid in the first half but imploded in the second half as Army came storming back.

Two tries from Army - one from scrumhalf Jake Banarhall and one from Luke Heun kept Army within shouting distance in the first half. In the second half, the Black Knights surged. Utah did score a try but Jake Lachina’s try kept Army close at 26-17. Then, at 51 minutes Peter Basnight powered over to make it 26-22. And then captain Donny Goff, coming on as a sub after Thursday’s tough loss against BYU, scored to give his team the lead for the first time.

"I'm very proud of this team," said Army Head Coach Matt Sherman. "Today we put in a fully committed effort after a day of rest against a very good team on the road. Every player gave the full measure. The best part is we can still be far more accurate in our execution, which we will need against Navy next week."

“We had several players out but we couldn’t put any pressure on the Black Knights,” lamented Utah Head Coach Jon Law. “We completely melted down in the second half. Credit to Army for their resilience, but it was among the most disappointing performances I can remember. We’ve got a lot of soul-searching to do.”
