Arizona State Beats USC

Arizona State logged the team’s first victory in PAC Rugby Conference play with a 47-26 defeat of Southern California.

ASU started several younger players, and Head Coach Gary Lane said the game was enormously valuable for that reason alone. But those young players also played well.

“We used a lot of young guns,” said Lane. “We learned a lot from the Air Force game. The guys who played did OK. We had some breakdowns, but overall a win is a win and we’re getting further with every game.”

Execution could have been better, said Lane, but the experience was what they needed.

“We’ve just got to keep playing and it will come,” he said.

Alex Walsh was a stabilizing factor in the backs and he kicked well, and fullback Kyson Jester also stepped up.
