The University of Arizona announced its incoming crop of rugby players Wednesday, with several HS All Americans as well as lesser-known players in the list.

The Wildcats have added 27 new players for the fall.

Jon Jacobs, a 6-4, 300-lb prop from Virginia who played for the USA U19 football team in China. Was a 2013 HS All American rugby player and will also be suiting up for the Wildcats football team.

"We have recently formed a nice relationship with [football Head Coach] Rich Rodriguez and the staff, and we are both excited to have Jon help our respective teams while he pursues his degree here," said Arizona Rugby Head Coach Sean Duffy. Jack Mortensen and Mikey Joseph are two more players from the Mid-Atlantic region.

From New York, centers JT Perez (Pelham HS) and Luke Vakasisikakala (Fordham Prep) join the Wildcats, while come to Tucson. Korbin Miller is a speedy back from Marietta, Ga. who played with the Charlotte Tigers and was a HS All American.

From the Midwest come Zach Heisterkamp (Saint Edward, Ohio) and Zach Biggs (Penn, Ind.), High School All Americans at flanker and hooker, respectively.

"Both Zachs are talented players who earned high honors individually but both were significant players on two of the top teams in the nation, with Biggs serving as captain. That speaks volumes to us," said Duffy.

Another HS All American, and a USA U20 player, Katy (Texas) loose forward Bronson Teles is a huge addition to the Arizona squad. Noah Thompson is from Lake Travis and another exciting talent, however, he is carrying an injury and won't be available for a while. Even closer to home, Red Mountain flyhalf Kritsian Sanchez and Old Pueblo No. 8 Charlie Harden are now Wildcats.

The international crop of players includes hooker Jacob Hedge (Australia), who was also a HS All American, flanker Ben Scoular (UK), center Brandon Strong (Canada), and wing Hadleigh Tucker (Bermuda).

California provides 12 players. From the North, Jesuit (Sacramento)'s Luke Thayer, Danville's Gabe Coray-Dozier, Granite Bay's Jake Van Order, and De La Salle's Jake Rowley start their freshman year. Rowley was his team's captain and MVP this past spring. Thayer was a key part of Jesuit's run to a 2nd place at nationals, and is a strong goalkicker.

From Southern California, Arizona has signed three-time All American flyhalf Anton Grigoriou , scrumhalf Calvin Brannon, flanker Christofaro Napoli, and No. 8 Eddie Wood - all four from Back Bay. Lock Zachary Knobbe-Hewitt, wing Max Lyle, and fullback Alec Packer come in from Torrey Pines/San Diego Mustangs. Rounding out the Southern California crew is Matt Sanders, a hard-running center who will return from injury in April.

"We are thrilled to welcome these players to the family, and we're looking forward to helping them reach their goals athletically and academically" said Duffy "Some have represented the USA in the past at the age grade level, and they'll bring great experience from that to us. Our hope is that they continue to do so. I can't think of a program that wouldn't want that experience and honor for it's players."
