41 Teams at Great Falls Medstar Tournament

The Great Falls Medstar tournament wrapped up last weekend with 41 teams in action in Great Falls, Va.

The tournament fielded teams as young as under 6 and up to High School level, with 17 clubs from Maryland, Virginia, and DC involved.

Eight hours of action on three fields in cold temperatures with a wind didn't deter the players, coaches and referees from putting on a great event.

The tournament raises funds for the Medstar National Rehab Hospital. The tournament is run by Gary Coetzee, who himself was a patient at the hospital after a serious neck injury that left him a quadriplegic. Through the efforts of those at Medstar Coetzee was able to walk again, and he credits the therapists at the hospital for his regained mobility.

The tournament also received support from Nando's Peri-Peri Chicken and Kiwik Pies.

On the day the winners were:

Holy Family (HS Boys), WC Marauders (HG Girls), Western Suburbs (HS JV and U15), Culpeper/Great Falls U13.
