Combine Provides Link to Top Pro Club

The upcoming combine at Arizona State University, which will include coaches form the ACT Brumbies of Super Rugby, is more than just a recruiting vehicle for ASU.
 
Brumbies Head Coach Stephen Larkham said in an upcoming RuggaMatrix America podcast said that the combine will also be an opportunity for up-and-coming American players to get seen first-hand by a top pro team, and perhaps get something out of it.
 
Larkham told RuggaMatrix America hosts Alex Goff and Bruce McLane in an interview that if a player shows promise, the Brumbies will look to get that player down to Australia’s capital of Canberra to train with the Brumbies and explore playing opportunities there. They shouldn’t expect a direct line to a Super Rugby starting place, but with a small recruiting base, the Brumbies are looking for new talent.
 
“This is an amazing opportunity,” enthused Arizona State Head Coach Gary Lane, who spent seven years nurturing the relationship between his team and the Brumbies - which goes way beyond just the one-time combine, but involves a year-long academy. “Never before have players in America had the chance to be invited to a combine run by one of the top professional rugby teams in the world. Players will have a direct connection with coaches from a professional rugby team.”
 
Larkham, the former Australia star flyhalf, is the Head Coach of the Brumbies and will oversee the combine and the coaching clinic held that same weekend.
