Tough All-Star Girls Field in Pittsburgh

Twelve girls teams are slated to play in the Rugby Challenge Cup regional all-star tournament this weekend in Pittsburgh, Pa.

In the Varsity Bracket, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Virginia, and a combined New Jersey/Empire team face off against Ohio II, Ohio I, Western New York, and Maryland.

Pennsylvania have the top seed but Indiana are expected to be very strong, while Ohio, long an all-star program that has done well, will be wanting to put aside their disappointing results from last week in Elkhart, Ind.

This will be a quarterfinal-semifinal-final knockout competition.

Meanwhile Indiana, Western New York, North Carolina, and Virginia will field Middle-School teams in a round-robin format.

Five HS programs provide all but two of the original Varsity selections for the Pennslvania Girls All-Star team.

Megan Lynott, Sophie Pyrz, Anne Marie Reed, Aisha Grondahl, Dana Alimena, Mrissa Kuhns, and Lili Riley are all from Doylestown. Aalea Ray, Grace Charnigo, Karisa McCauley, and Lizzy Schell are all from Hempfield, Carly Waters, Kira Garnett, Paige Krahling, and Joie Krahling are from Downingtown, Zoe Rex, Amelie Poulin, and Sylina Flowers are from North Penn, and Sabrina Elsee, Rosalia Loy, Maddie Brenner, and Sierra Stare are all from West Shore United.

Only Margaret Nelson (Conestoga) and Akweley Okine (West Chester) have no club mates on the team.
