Girls All-Star Season Starts

The Girls Regional All-Star season begins official with tournaments in Colorado and Indiana this coming weekend.

The Rocky Mountain Challenge features five teams - APEX, Northern California, Colorado, Texas, and Utah.

APEX is Summit County in Colorado, of course featuring longtime repeat Colorado champs Summit. Texas is something of a wild card, with girls rugby not deep from that region.

Northern California, featuring several of the top HS teams in the country, has to be one of the favorites.

The teams will play a straight round-robin, with the winners being the team with the best record after their four games. All teams will play two shortened games on Saturday and two shortened games on Sunday.

The Rocky Mountain Challenge takes place June 14-15 a the Aurora Sports Complex in Aurora, Colo.

In Indiana, it’s a very deep field, with teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan in the Girls Varsity Bracket. There is also a Girls JV bracket.

Wisconsin is a strong program but will, somewhat surprisingly, not feature many players from Divine Savior Holy Angels, with Kettle Moraine and Catholic Memorial providing the bulk of the players this time around.

The Minnesota team, with Armstrong and Orono providing several players, should be very strong.

The Midwest Rugby Challenge takes place June 14-15 at the Moose Rugby Grounds in Elkhart, Ind.
