MARC Decides Nationals Reps

The Mid-Atlantic conference will decide its women's DII college finalists this weekend, and the match-ups went undecided until the final week of league play.

The conference employs a unique playoff system. Division winners Kutztown (Tri-State) and Bloomsburg (Pennsylvania) receive byes through the quarterfinals on Saturday and contest its semifinal matches on Sunday. Tomorrow, the second- and third-place teams from each division will compete for a semifinal berth.

In the first quarterfinal, Delaware (Tri-State #2) hosts Millersville (Pennsylvania #3); and on the other side of the bracket, Shippensburg (Pennsylvania #2) hosts St. Joseph's (Tri-State #3). The Pennsylvania seeds relied on last weekend's game between Shippensburg and Millersville, and the former won 55-10. Should Shippensburg win its Saturday game, a rematch of the 2013 conference will take place on Sunday, with Kutztown awaiting the defending champion with an extra day's rest. The winner of the Delaware vs. Millersville game will play Bloomsburg Sunday.

The following weekend, Nov. 8, the consolation and final will occur at Shippensburg. In terms of nationals, the conference final is essentially a seedings match (like the Ohio Valley and Tri-State conferences), as both teams will advance to the Round of 16. The victor will play in the Northeast bracket and face the winner of New England Wide #1 vs. Upstate New York #2 (both of which will be determined this weekend). The #2 MARC team will compete in the Mid-Atlantic bracket and play the winner of Stonehill (Rugby Northeast champion) vs. Tuft (New England Small College #2) in the Round of 16.
