All American Women Set for Not U20s

Women’s Collegiate All American Head Coach Martha Daines has named a changed side to play the Ontario U20s Sunday.

After defeating an Ontario senior side that was still fairly young, the All Americans are favored to win this one, too, and some of the players who started on Friday sit today.

Friday’s game went down to the wire, with Natalie Kosko scoring the winning try with time time almost up.

“I think our wings were our secret weapons,” said fullback Erin Overcash, who starts for the second time Sunday. “We definitely had the speed. I just remember - I believe we had turned it over and they had a break through the midfield. There was a girl coming at me with two or three supporters. She had the offload, but chose to try and kick. So I just remember trying to protect my kick, deflected the kick … and I remember seeing Natalie on the wing her blonde hair coming across the field and she’s putting it under the posts.”

“We expect to see under 20s, and some of our girls are on that bubble,” added tanker Hannah Bell, who moves to the bench Sunday, explaining that this All American squad is young.

Overall, there are five new faces in the forwards, with Jessica Lewis of Cal, Bailey Johnson of Minnesota-St. Cloud, and Navy’s Erika Pederson returning. Pederson moves from blindside flank to No. 8.

In the backs, wing Kristan Thomas (Central Florida) and fullback Overcash (Colorado) start for the second time, while Washington State’s Anne Peterson moves from center to flyhalf.

The remaining four backs are all getting their first start.
