Two 2-0 in Wisconsin - One Scary

Two winners in Wisconsin, and two teams now 2-0 in the WIIL Conference, but also two teams with very different stories.

For UW-Stout, it was a good day, but a tense one, as they pulled out a 41-36 squeaker against previously 0-1 UW-Platteville. Brad Dufek, Damon King, Kyle Klanderman, Stetson Smith, and Travis Swirth were among the try-scorers in a game that we not expected to be that close.

At 2-0, Stout are in good position, but have to be concerned about being pushed. Why? In part because UW-Whitewater looked treacherous. After beating Marquette 81-15 in Week One, UWW did one better, hammering UW-LaCrosse 114-0 on Saturday.

"We feel really confident," said UW-Whitewater wing and club officer Tyler Fuchs. "Last year we were third in the nation and we are looking to build from that. We got a couple of transfers in and our expectations are high. I think the forwards and the backs are working well as units, but more importantly, they are working well together."

Still, added Fuchs, "we have a lot of room for improvement. We know at the national level we need to be better.

Fullback Eric Pachowitz has been electric so far this season, and the attack all seems to flow around flyhalf Jack Healy.

"He knows how to find the guy in space, whether it's a forward or back, out wide or in tight," said Fuchs.

All of those bodes ill for the prospects of everyone else in the WIIL North.
