Sooners Take Down Baylor

Oklahoma University beat Baylor handily Saturday 57-12 in Red River DIA conference play.

The Sooners were led, as usual, by Michael Al-Jiboori, who scored three tries, and by Grant Clancy, who scored two. Thomas Chinellato kicked six conversions for 12 points, while Trevon Barnes, James Kidd, David Nixon, and Bryan Young also touched down.

“The team we took to Waco was probably the greenest we have had all season,” said OU Head Coach Jason Horowitz. “However, the work in the preseason and camp certainly paid off for the guys today.  We still need some work in the set-piece and decision-making in the open field, but the freshmen and new players perfumed well.”

Horowitz also praised the continuity of his backs.

OU had injuries and ROTC and other military commitments that kept several of their players home.

Horowitz said he had faith in the younger players, saying the game was an opportunity for them to show what they can do.

Al-Jiboori, who is captaining the side and playing some impressive rugby, said losing some players for a game is a shame, but a challenge everyone accepted.

“A challenge is no stranger to us so we welcome it,” he said. “I intend to lead my team as best I can and hope to be an extra spark through the obstacles that lay ahead.”

In other Red River action, Texas shut out TCU 27-0.
