Men All Americans Named

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The touring side for the USA Rugby AIG Men’s Collegiate All-Americans’ upcoming matches against Cambridge University and Ontario Blues has been selected.

MCAA Head Coach Matt Sherman and his staff held a four-day selection camp June 12-15, at which 53 of the country’s top collegiate rugby players trained at Merrimack College.

Nineteen of the 33 players selected played for D1A Rugby schools in 2014. Saint Mary’s College, D1A Champion following a 21-6 defeat of Life University in the Final at Stanford University in May, is represented by six players, including Final MVP Cooper Maloney. Life University’s Paris Hollis also made the touring squad.

Just six of the 33 players have played for the MCAAs previously.

“We are really pleased with the effort and focus of all the players competing in camp at Merrimack College,” Sherman said. “While this is a relatively inexperienced team at the Collegiate All-American level, the players have shown a lot of ability and tenacity.

“Our focus now will turn towards coming together as a team as we prepare for tough international opposition in a few days’ time.”

Dartmouth’s Madison Hughes, who featured on the Men’s Eagles Sevens roster during their 2013-14 IRB HSBC Sevens World Series campaign, will wear the MCAA jersey for the third consecutive year and will play on his home field in Hanover, N.H., when the MCAAs host Cambridge University in the first of two matches June 21. The match will be streamed live online on USA Rugby TV.

The Irish Cultural Center in Canton, Mass., will be the site of the second clash between the MCAAs and Cambridge University June 25. The MCAAs will then host Ontario Blues in their final match of the summer at the Irish Cultural Center June28.

The MCAAs are also holding a raffle, with participants entered to win the team’s match kit and a chance to have a meal with the team.
