Colorado College Downs SLU

Colorado College upended St. Louis University 28-24 Saturday in a rematch of a national playoff game from last year.

The result was a big boost for Colorado College, which has been trying to make its way through a DII schedule without many, or any, DII opponents. This match against SLU - in which SLU and CC shared SLU’s travel costs - was Colorado’s first DII game of the year. They have been playing DI opponents through this fall.

Colorado College’s effort was led by Ricky Boebel, an American who grew up in New Zeaand. Boebel’s kicking was the difference as he was successful in all four conversions, while St. Louis was only 2-for-4. Nick Pearson played a very good game at inside center. The freshman, a recent graduate of Belmont HS in Massachusetts, is one of several players at CC with good high school rugby experience.

The Colorado College deep three, anchored by Dylan Sondermann, was very strong, also.

This result was a huge boost to the team’s confidence, said the coaches, and also a boost to a plan to revitalize a DII league in the Rocky Mountain region.
