Arkansas State Looks to Challenging Schedule

Arkansas State University's men's team has finalized its 2014-2015 schedule, which includes a tour to California, where they will meet defending DIA champions St. Mary's, and a clash with DIA runners up Life University.

In addition, the Red Wolves will take on two top men's clubs - Glendale and Life University - before they enter the Varsity Cup single-elimination invitational in April.

ASU will also enter both the USA Rugby 7s Championships and the Collegiate Rugby Championship invitational (CRC) in the spring.

ASU, said Head Coach Mani Delaibatiki, will play "a lot of games leading up to the Varsity Cup with tough, high caliber opponents, and that's the way we are approaching our preparation for Varsity Cup in 2015. With a squad of 27 new incoming players this season, its important that we fast track the development of our new players,  and put the whole squad through a high pressure preseason environment. I want our guys to be challenged every week against good teams, and we have Glendale, Life Mens only to name a few sides, that will definitely give us that, and I believe that's the only way our club will continue to get better is by playing tough opponents."

Delaibatiki said the Red Wolves may have graduated a large number of highly-regarded players, but the program will not take it easy.

"Regardless of who puts on the game day jersey, we will still showcase Arkansas State rugby, and that's the challenge all our guys are stepping up to starting this Saturday for our scrimmage. Players might be different from last season, we might have 27 new players, but the level of intensity and heart needed to play for our school and ASU rugby is still the same, and we expect nothing less this fall 14 and spring 15 seasons. The scrimmage this Saturday will set the benchmark for us moving forward, and I am excited to see what these next 10 months will bring for our rugby club. Onwards and upwards from here."
