Pittman to Hold Camp at Old Club

USA prop Shawn Pittman is returning to the high school program that got him started in rugby to run a camp this summer.

Pittman first began playing rugby for the Chuckanut Bay club in northern Washington state, starring as a No. 8 and earning the nickname “Grizzly” for his wild hair and beard. Pittman converted to prop with the USA age-grade teams under Salty Thompson and played with SFGG before going on to play professionally for London Welsh.

He returned to Washington to recuperate from a concussion and is now working with Serevi Rugby and getting himself fit for the Eagles once more.

Meanwhile, he has been teaching the game to kids.

The camp in question will be held at Chuckanut’s Polo Fields grounds in Ferndale, Wash. and will run from July 7-9, 9am to 3pm. It is a day camp, and will feature USA Strength & Conditioning Coach Dave Williams and USA hooker and Glendale Raptors captain Zach Fenoglio.

Anyone who has attended a Serevi camp, academy, or demo gets  20% discount, and groups of three or more also get a discount.

Part of each entry fee will go toward supporting Chuckanut rugby programs.

Pittman told GoffRugbyReport that he is excited about returning to Ferndale to talk rugby.

“I’m trying to give the kids in our area another avenue to be seen, and it’s great to be doing it in my backyard,” Pittman said. “I’ve been wanting to do something like this for years to give something back to the community that has given me so much.”
