GRR: Northern California
Menlo-Atherton produced a very nice performance in beating HS Club #17 Granite Bay 29-24 Saturday.
The results continue to be all over the place in Northern California Boys HS competition.
Granite BayGranite Bay pulled off something of a surprise with a 17-15 defeat of Jesuit. It was a strange day for Granite Bay Head Coach Chris Miller, who captained Jesuit many years ago, now found himelf marshaling his team through a rebuild and a defeat of his old team.
The #19-ranked HS club Danville beat #12 school team Jesuit in Sacramento Saturday, with the Oaks taking down the Marauders 22-12.
While Jesuit battled in this game and worked hard to keep it close, Danville, behind a hard-nosed forward effort, looked the more impressive team and was certainly the (slightly) more game-hardened.
Northern California's first step into competitive HS rugby this year was a tentative one, but it still happened, and that's a little victory in and of itself.
Finally Northern California High School is about to start.
April 24 signals the beginning of the Rugby NorCal league, and it's going to be a sprint through May for these teams as many shoot for a place in the Boys HS National Championships.
