GRR: Northern California
Jesuit of Sacramento defeated St. John Bosco 32-24 to win the All-California Single-School title Saturday.
This championship is a revitalization of a fixure that was held for some years, but abandoned. Rugby NorCal and the Southern California Interscholastic Rugby Federation brought it back this year. De La Salle defeated St. Augustine to take 3rd.
Lamorinda shook up the Northern California, and indeed the national, high school scene with a 36-29 defeat of defending national HS Club champion Danville Oaks over the weekend.
For Lamorinda, this was a huge accomplishment and it’s not a coincidence that a couple of days later Lamorinda was invited to the 2019 HS National Championships.
Jesuit of Sacramento defeated Marin 69-14 over the weekend paced by some outstanding work from fullback Max Schumacher and forward Laiatu Latu.
Jesuit scored early thanks to a Schumacher penalty. The co-captain would not miss a kick all day.
Jesuit made the trip up the hill to play Mother Lode at Ponderosa High School in the early going of the Rugby NorCal season.
Ben Parker, who was a stalwart in the Sacramento rugby scene and one of the most vocal advocates for serious governance of the game, has died.
