The Men’s D2 college rugby season is well and truly starting this weekend and as usual you really don’t know until the cleats hit the grass.
Allegheny, Cardinals, High Peaks, Liberty, MARC, Northern Lights, NACR, SCRC all get going.
The Allegheny Conference opened its men’s D2 action this past weekend, getting a bit of a head start on the rest of D2.
Defending national champs IUP opened their conference season with a fairly comfortable 44-12 win over Slippery Rock.
IUP Head Coach Seth Erwin has several returning starters on which to draw so really his lineup decisions were more about tinkering.
American collegiate rugby has split up into very specific tiers and because of that it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that all the potential high performance players are in the highest divisions.
But that’s certainly not the case; witness our latest example, Ray Santiago.
The University of Chicago is seeking a new Head Coach.
We combine the deep three because we can.
And also because many of these players play similar roles and switch around from wing to fullback. We so have some players who might be centers also, notably Dominic Holmes who played all over but was MVP of the D2 final as a fullback so he goes in here.
Ultimately there is a ton of talent and there has been throughout the list.
