Lopsided Results in Women DI College

Synopses of a handful of women's DI college games that occurred today:

BIG TEN
Ohio State scored 25 points in either half to beat Michigan 50-14. Try-scorers included Cyndi Campbell, Alana Winston and Jillian Getz. The game marked OSU's first league win of the season.

Indiana improved to 2-0 after dominated Michigan State 88-0 and has now scored 184 unanswered points in league.

Penn State played two friendlies today, scoring 192 points and allowing 10. The day started with a 93-5 win over DI Pittsburgh and ended with a 99-5 victory over DI James Madison. The rosters were well balanced, with multi-try-scorers Katie Mueller (2), Tess Feury (2), Elizabeth Cairns (3) and Gabby Cantorna (4) playing against Pitt; and Kacy Dux (3), Lauren Barber (3), Andrea Villanova (2) and Annie Lucas (2) lining up against JMU. Lauren Shissler, Carly Waters, Cantorna and Feury handled the kicking duties. PSU doesn't play its first league match until Oct. 4 against Notre Dame.

IVY LEAGUE
After a scoreless 10 minutes, Dartmouth pulled away with a 62-3 win over Princeton. The Big Green took a 24-0 lead in the first half thanks to two tries from Kerry Ann Conlin, and one apiece from Diana Wise and Audrey Perez. Dartmouth ramped up the pressure in stanza two, sending Perez over the line twice more for the hat trick, Wise for her second, and Yejadai Dunn, Tatjana Toeldte and Michaela Conway for a try apiece. The game marked the teams' first Ivy League game. Harvard and Brown played each other last weekend in their league openers and spent this Saturday running up the scores against Tier B teams.

Harvard topped Yale 54-0 and was led by Lenica Morales-Valenzuela's hat trick. The rest of the scores came through Hope Schwartz, Mariah Turner, Anabiet Abasi, Kaleigh Henry and Ann Marie Barrett.

Brown got its second-straight win: 76-10 over Penn. The backs duo of Oksana Goretaya and Saskia Morgan was unstoppable today, and the pair teamed up for the majority of the team's tries. Sofia Rudin had a good day off the tee as well.

MASON DIXON
West Chester ran ragged over Temple in the teams' Mason Dixon opener, blanking the Owls 111-0. All American fullback Nicole Benedetti scored five tries, but senior flyhalf Katie Walston led all scorers with 35 points on three tries and 10 conversions. Sophia Schwab (3) and Arielle Gantt (2) also had multi-try performances, while Erin Brosius, Miranda Northcott and freshman flyhalf Aalea Ray (2 conversions) also added five-pointers.

The Rams are heavy favorites to win the North Division. In the South Division, Virginia Tech dominated NC State to a 43-14 win.

NORTHEAST
Boston College got its second win of the Northeast season, downing Rhode Island 26-5 today. Senior Brittany Burke led all scorers with two tries, while fellow senior Rachel Harrison and sophomore Courtney Blair added five-pointers. Laura Krivicich tacked on three conversions.

Boston College is one of six DI teams that comprise the Northeast's Eastern Division. The Western Division contains the top three teams - Norwich, Army and AIC - and cross-divisional matches do not count toward standings. The Northeast champion will come out of the Western Division.

Norwich put in another big performance against AIC, winning 58-12. Junior center Ally Day and forward captain Vanessa Champagne each logged hat tricks on the day, while flyhalf Hannah Bell (four conversions) and freshmen Ilona Maher, Denisse Zambon and Alana Giradin added tries as well.

The game was new coach Dimitri Efthimiou's first with the Yellow Jackets, and it's now clear that AIC does not boast the strength that it did a season ago.

Army played Eastern Division's UCONN this evening in Connecticut and won 54-5.

Stay tuned for more results and detail.
