The nice thing about attending the Rugby Ohio Finals Day was that players listed where they are going for college.
Xavier defeated Rye HS 21-17 in the Rugby New York D1 Boys HS final Sunday to win the state championship on the grounds of Siena College, but it wasn't easy..
It was a much closer result than expected and closer than three weeks ago when Xavier beat Rye 22-6.
Six boys state champions were crowns Saturday at Rugby Ohio's Finals Day at Fortess Obetz just outside Columbus, with some impressive showings, and two very dramatic finishes.
Some quick notes from state championships around the nation.
In New York it will be Rye vs Xavier on Sunday for the state D1 championship. Rye shut out Canisius 18-0 and Xavier beat Corning on Saturday.
In Illinois, Glen Ellyn defeated New Trier 45-17 Friday night to take the Rugby Illinois title. Joey Pope scored four tries for the Ducks.
