GRR: Rugby Ohio
Some quick notes from state championships around the nation.
In New York it will be Rye vs Xavier on Sunday for the state D1 championship. Rye shut out Canisius 18-0 and Xavier beat Corning on Saturday.
In Illinois, Glen Ellyn defeated New Trier 45-17 Friday night to take the Rugby Illinois title. Joey Pope scored four tries for the Ducks.
Rugby Ohio is set for its championship weekend at Fortress Obetz in Columbus.
(Analysis Column by Alex Goff)—It is a rare thing that I as a journalist get a front-row seat to a championship team throughout the season.
St. Ignatius won their big rivalry game with St. Edward in Cleveland, with the #1-ranked Wildcats taking on the #20 Eagles.
The game was played in front of a crowd of at least 2,000 as this is the big high school sports rivalry in the city, with these two teams carrying a proud rugby tradition and being only a short drive from each other.
Top-ranked school team St. Ignatius played their first home game of the season at their ground in Cleveland, Ohio, and put #24 Moeller to the sword in emphatic fashion Saturday.
