Iowa Central CC defeated Iowa State 40-12 in one of the very, very few college rugby games slated for this fall.

The two teams had met in a scrimmage at the end of August (won by ICCC 23-14), and have continued to stay careful with their COVID-19 protocols, and thus were able to meet in Fort Dodge, Iowa, for the rematch.

Iowa Central Community College and Iowa State will face off for the second time this fall season.

While the vast majority of college teams are unable to play, some have been able to get something going. This is the second game between the two teams.

In an opener of what promises to be a hugely disrupted collegiate rugby season, Iowa Central Community College defeated Iowa State 23-14 Saturday.

The game was touted as a scrimmage as both programs were just trying to get players on the field. Still it was a real rugby game with tackles and scrums and everything.

Iowa State was named one of FloRugby's potential breakout DI college teams, and things have been going well for the team so far.

ISU beat Iowa two weekends ago 43-0, getting four tries from center Joe Dillon, and two from scrumhalf Emmett Wagner.

As details about the DI fall championship develop, one thing is for certain: A new team will represent the Midwest this year. Northern Iowa led the region for years, but it’s time for either Minnesota or Iowa State to head to nationals.
