The Gold Coast Conference usually gets decided by the same top teams playing off, and this year is no different.

Claremont Colleges, which plays in the Gold Coast D1 and goes on to the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) playoffs, is one of those teams, as is Cal State Long Beach, and University of San Diego. Last week, Claremont and CSULB battled to a 26-26 tie.

Cal State Long Beach defeated Southern California 50-5 Saturday to finish their Gold Coast Conference season 6-0 and move to 17-0 overall.

The 49ers take the #1 seed into the Gold Coast playoffs, with University of San Diego #2, Santa Barbara City College #3, and Cal State Fullerton #4.

Reigning DII conference champ Long Beach State proved vulnerable after a big loss to CSU Northridge, and Friday’s game against a solid UC Irvine was going to indicate just how vulnerable.
