Wisconsin-Whitewater continues to roll in the WIIL with an impressive 85-0 shutout of UW-Stout.

It’s been a long season for Stout, which started the fall ranked in Goff Rugby Report’s top ten, in part because they hadn’t lost a lot of players to graduation. But things have not gone their way, while Whitewater continues to win.

Levi Van Lanen, a freshman from Pulaski HS in Wisconsin, scored three tries for the Warhawks, and he had to leave at the 35th minute because of a cut above his eye. Batavia, Illl. sophomore Michael Fota, getting a start because another player was injured, scored three tries in the second half.

“Our loose forwards set the tone early with great defense and incredible support all over the field, “ said Whitewater Head Coach Matt Pederson.

Junior Jacob Huskisson out of Kettle Moraine HS in Wisconsin led the forwards with his energy and smart running lines. Shay Haase, a freshman out of Middleton HS in Wisconsin did well doing the unheralded work of a flanker.

Whitewater is now in sole possession of 1st place in the WIIL North after UW-Milwaukee lost 26-12 (score to be confirmed) at Northern Michigan. UWM struggled in the road game and got a red card that didn’t help them. The Panthers drop to 3-1, while NMU improves to 2-1 and is suddenly smack in the middle of the playoff conversation.

Meanwhile in the South, Illinois State defeated Northwestern 40-5 with Timmy Lynch earning player of the game honors.

Northern Iowa won 33-0 over Loyola to stay undefeated at 4-0, and Lindenwood-Belleville, paced by Jacob Gilliam’s snappy kicking, shut out DePaul 36-0 on a day when they had some players out with injury.

With UW-Lacrosse at UW-Platteville to be played Sunday, here’s how the WIIL Standings sit right now.
