Utah Beats UCLA

The University of Utah downed UCLA 49-8 to move to 1-1 in the PAC Rugby Conference Saturday.

Regular team leaders Gabe Rufflin and Chad Gough (who scored four tries), and Josh Webber led the attack nicely from flyhalf. However, two freshmen stood out particularly for the Utes, lock Ben Jones and flanker Levi Hunt. Jones, who scored two tries on the day, was named player of the game.

Utah also played USC Saturday - teams are lining up their 2nd sides to face USC and Stanford in quasi-conference play - the games (as far as we understand it) don't count for the standings, but are being played as USC and Stanford look to full membership in the conference in the future. Utah was shorthanded for the match with USC, but battled on as the Trojans won 27-5.

Below are the standings as we have thm, including Cal's win over Arizona State. The top five teams' games against Stanford and USC are not counted, but we do count the games against PAC Conference opponents for USC and Stanford, with the understanding that they will be listed as the bottom two teams regardless.
