Towson, Salisbury, Georgetown Rule Capital

The Towson forwards led the way over UMBC.

In Week Two of the Capital Men’s DII College conference, the top teams won once again.

Salisbury was winning convincingly against George Mason when GMU forfeited in the second half. It was a blowout for Towson, too, 81-3 over UMBC. Meanwhile Georgetown won 41-0 over Johns Hopkins.

Towson started off quickly, taking possession in a lineout and spinning it to senior wing Tim Finnell, who turned the corner and scampered in untouched to score in the 5th minute. Eric Sweeney's kick was good. UMBC battled over the next ten minutes, but then Towson drove down the field with the forwards, setting up a ruck in the middle of the field, and junior flyhalf Vince Francescangeli offloaded to junior fullback Alex Walsh, who grubbered for wing Tim Shields to score in the corner.

That made it 14-0. Four minutes later Francescangeli drew the defense and offloaded to senior flanker Will Ngonga who raced in to score. Six minutes later, senior center Brian Shields plowed through the defense and set a ruck, and quick ball set up Tim Shields. Sweeney kept kicking well and it was 28-0 after 26 minutes. UMBC slotted a penalty at 31 minutes, but Towson replied; Francescangeli set up Walsh who sprinted in under the posts. On the restart, Francescangeli found Walsh, who drew the defense and dished to wing Tim Finnell for the try. Sweeney missed for the first time all day as the teams entered the break 40-3.

Walsh and Francescangeli combined again, this time for the flyhalf to score. Shields, Francescangeli, Brian Smith, lock Tyler Honeycutt, Shields for the 4th time, and center Nick Tirabassi all touch down. Sweeney ended up kicking eight conversions.

Senior locks Michael Gouterman and Tyler Honeycutt were the workhorses up front, while Francescangeli, Sweeney, and Walsh wroekd well together in the backline.

Georgetown got tries from Zach Rego, Matthieu de Gaudemar, Will Wrotniak, and Chris White in the first half, and Rego and White touched down in the second to finish off the 41-0 shutout.
